Richmond Ready Guiding Statement

Richmond Ready is a group of volunteer Richmond residents who are interested in emergency preparedness and building community. We aim to educate and inform neighbors on ways to be more prepared for any type of emergency. We also support efforts to work together neighbor by neighbor, block by block to become part of a more resilient community in the case of a natural or man-made disaster such as earthquake, fire, chemical release, water contamination, and flood.

A main goal for Richmond Ready is for the community to become the committee.
We aim to be inclusive by using crowd sourcing models to accomplish the following:

  • hear what neighbors want to learn more about

  • hear and share stories about how our neighbors are preparing themselves and their blocks

  • to recruit volunteers to help Richmond Ready become an active and enabling resource for the neighborhood and surrounding communities

We hope that neighbors who are preparing themselves, their homes or their neighbors will step up to lead and/or partake in the planning for events and forums. After all, the best way to learn something is through the stories and experiences of others!

A little clarification.
To be sure that there is no misunderstanding, we are not the Richmond NET group, however we will be collaborating with them on several occasions! Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) members have gone through 30+ hours of training provided by PBEM and Portland Fire & Rescue to provide emergency disaster assistance within their own neighborhoods. NET members are trained to save lives and property until professional responders can arrive. To learn more go to https://www.portlandoregon.gov/pbem/31667

Just for fun!
Check out this website if the topic of preparedness is too heavy for you and causes you to shrug up your shoulders and say β€œit is what it is.” It might help you to have a good laugh at preparedness in a Portland-kind-of-way before coming to your senses that we all need to do what we can to be prepared, not relying on others to help us out if the big one hits! Enjoy!
